Babysitters for Snowbird and Alta in Little Cottonwood Canyon
Snowbird and Alta sit side by side at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, famous for deep powder and steep terrain. Alta is skiers only, Snowbird welcomes snowboarders too, and the two connect for skiers who want both. Whether your family is staying at a lodge up the canyon or in a rental down in the Salt Lake Valley, Mother Goose Child Care can send a sitter so the grown-ups can chase the storm.
Every Mother Goose sitter has been interviewed and reference checked, drug tested, background checked through BeenVerified and trained in CPR and first aid. They bring games and activities along, and they look after your children right where you are staying.
Canyon planning tips: road closures and interlodge
Little Cottonwood is a single road in and out, and big storms bring avalanche control work. The road can close for hours, and lodges up the canyon sometimes go on interlodge, meaning everyone has to stay indoors until it is lifted. A few things help:
- Check road and traction-law updates the evening before. Utah’s canyon traction rules can require 4WD, AWD or chains.
- On a forecast powder morning, plan extra time at both ends of your booking. Your sitter’s drive up, and back down, may take longer than usual.
- Safety comes first. If weather keeps your sitter from reaching you, we will do our best to send a replacement, and we may cancel in extreme conditions.
- Staying in the valley? Booking your sitter at a Salt Lake rental and driving up yourself keeps your childcare independent of canyon closures.
How it works
- Send your trip dates through our booking app or call 801-404-2269.
- Let us know whether you are staying in the canyon or in the valley, and how many children need care.
- We line up a sitter matched to your kids’ ages and personalities.
- Watch the forecast together with us, and adjust start times with your sitter if a storm rolls in.
Gear for a Little Cottonwood ski trip
We rent cribs, pack ‘n plays, high chairs, jogging strollers and carrier backpacks, delivered to your hotel or vacation rental and picked up after you leave. Storm days can affect delivery timing up the canyon, so order early.
“Great service – set us up with a fantastic nanny for 3.5 weeks while we were in Salt Lake. Very easy to work with, communicative, organized and flexible. Highly recommend!” Phoebe P., Google review
Snowbird and Alta Babysitting FAQs
What happens if Little Cottonwood Canyon closes?
Call us as soon as you hear about a closure. We will work with you on timing or try to find another sitter, but heavy snow can mean real delays, and our terms allow us to cancel in extreme weather.
Can our sitter take the kids down to the valley?
Sitters can drive children with a signed waiver, as long as you arrange it ahead of time and provide age-appropriate car seats. Car seat rentals are available.
How far ahead should we book a canyon sitter?
Book as soon as your dates are set, especially around holidays. For short-notice requests, call our office; a $50 same-day fee applies.
What are your rates?
Hourly rates run from $37 for one child to $46 for four, paid to your sitter by cash, Venmo or Zelle, plus a $25 non-refundable booking fee per day. See Rates and Terms for holiday pricing.
